In 1973, a group of visionary Binghamton University students came together with one shared goal: to create a safer campus by providing emergency medical care when it was needed most. What started with a single Cadillac hearse and a lot of heart has grown into one of the top student-run EMS agencies in the country — Harpur’s Ferry.
Now, 50 years later, we celebrate a legacy of service, resilience, and student leadership. From responding to emergencies on campus to playing critical roles in community-wide disasters like regional floods, Harpur’s Ferry has always stood ready — 24/7, 365 days a year.
Our alumni have gone on to become doctors, nurses, first responders, and healthcare leaders — but no matter where they are now, they carry with them the lessons, teamwork, and compassion they gained here. Harpur’s Ferry isn’t just an ambulance service. It’s a family, a training ground, and a testament to what passionate students can accomplish when they work together to care for their community.
Here’s to 50 years of saving lives — and to the many more ahead.
